Mixed Triples League

Champions

SDBA & SDWBA Mixed Triples League 2024

The MTL is run jointly by S&DBA and S&DWBA. Responsibility for the administration will alternate between the Associations each season. It is intended to provide a relaxed atmosphere, particularly for those new to league competition.

There will be a formal review of the viability and arrangements for the MTL after each season instigated by either Association. Eligibility: clubs must be affiliated to both Associations at the time they apply to join the league. They may enter as many teams as they wish, but priority will be given to the first team of each club. It may not be practical to accept every entry.

New teams will join at the lowest place; divisions will be based on the previous season’s ranking. Deadline for entry: 14 January, with confirmation by 23 April.

Entry fee: none, as no costs are incurred. League format: this is determined by the number of entries. Broadly, there should be a minimum of 6, and a maximum of 8 teams, in a league to play on a home and away basis. Alternatively, if the numbers are awkward, the league may be arranged on a one match basis with the venue being decided by draw, with teams having equal (or as near equal) numbers of games at home as away.

League schedule: will be published by 28 February and clubs will be asked to confirm they can fulfil their commitment no later than 23 April. If any team withdraws, a revised schedule will be published by 30 April. The league will commence on the second Wednesday of May (8th in 2024); no matches will be scheduled during the Southampton Open.

Players: must be full members of the club; and they must play for just one club throughout the season in the MTL even if they are members of several. There will be no player registration.

Matches: will be played on Wednesdays at 6.15pm. There will be two trial ends plus 18 ends played. The dress code is greys with club shirt. Each team will comprise 2 mixed triples: there must be one male and one female player in each triple. Each winning triple will score 1 point (draw = ½ point) and the aggregate winner for the match will score an additional 2 points (draw = 1 point each team). If either triple is not mixed, fails to arrive by 6.30pm, or is incomplete (at the commencement or during play, no substitutes) the match will be cancelled and shall be forfeited by the defaulting team by 10 shots and 4 points.

Teams defaulting more than twice will be placed bottom of their league. If it is unsafe to commence, or complete, 18 ends (eg weather, light) each team will be awarded 2 points. No matches will be re-arranged. The offer of a drink after matches would be welcome.

Match report and notification of result: before the match starts the captains should meet to declare their teams on the match report and draw for rinks. At the end of the match the scores should be entered and both captains sign off the report as confirmed.

The result (aggregate shots and points) should then be notified by the home captain through League Republic or to the MTL secretary either by text or email by 10pm.

The match report should then be sent either electronically or by post to the MTL secretary. Results and league table: will be published on the (organising) Association’s website.

Promotion and relegation: two teams to be promoted and two relegated on the basis of: greater points won, greater positive shot difference, greater number of shots scored, draw. However this cannot be guaranteed as the divisions will be decided based on the number of entries and ranking each season.

Advice and dispute resolution: will be available from the MTL secretary; in having to resolve a dispute, their decision shall be final
